President Trump announced the creation of a new federal task force on artificial intelligence, calling it the Super Intelligence Force. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the group, which Trump unveiled Sunday in a social media post.

The task force will report directly to Trump and his chief of staff, Susie Wiles. Other officials involved include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.

According to the administration, the group is meant to coordinate federal efforts to keep the United States ahead in AI development, with plans to engage consumers, advocacy groups, religious organizations, infrastructure providers and AI companies directly.

The announcement follows a White House meeting with executives from major AI companies, who reportedly agreed to a set of voluntary self regulation measures. Trump has described artificial intelligence as a transformative technology, comparing its significance to the Industrial Revolution and the arrival of the internet.
